Adding a document
- From another app: tap Share on a web page, a PDF, a photo of a page or selected text and choose Listably. The share sheet takes one file or web page at a time, or up to 50 photos.
- From Files: tap + in the library and pick a PDF, EPUB or text file.
- From paper: tap + and choose Scan, then photograph the page.
- From the web: tap + and paste the web address.
A file will not open
Books and files with copy protection (DRM) cannot be opened. That is a limit of the file, not your phone. For anything else that fails, email us the file name and type and we will look into it.
Better voices
Listably reads with its own Studio voices, which sound natural and run on your iPhone with no internet connection. Fern and Willow are free; Iris, Rowan, Ash and Reed come with Pro. Change voice from the voice button in the player. Studio voices go up to 2x speed.
You can also use any Apple voice installed on your iPhone. Higher-quality Apple voices are free: open the Settings app, search for "Voices", and download any marked Enhanced or Premium. They appear in Listably straight away.
Sleep timer
In the player, tap the moon button and choose 10, 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The countdown shows on the button, and playback pauses when it reaches zero. Tap it again and choose "Turn off" to cancel. The timer is cleared when you leave the player.
Listen later (Pro)
Swipe right on any document in the library and tap "Listen later". It joins the "Up next" list at the top of the library, and when one queued document finishes the next one starts by itself. Tap Reorder next to "Up next" and drag the handles to change the order, then tap Done. Swipe left on a queued document to remove it from the list.
Save as audio (Pro)
In the player, tap the three dots at the top right and choose "Save as audio". Listably renders the document with the voice and speed you have set, on your iPhone, and then opens the share sheet so you can save the file to Files, AirDrop it, or send it. The file is an .m4a that plays in Music, Files and most players. Long documents take a while; keep the app open until it finishes.
Pro, restoring and cancelling
- Restore Pro on a new phone: in Listably, open Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID.
- Cancel a subscription: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least a day before it renews. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds: payments go through Apple, so refunds do too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
